You’ve heard it before, you’ve got to build trust with your audience in order for people to buy from you.

The more people trust you, the more sales you’ll make. People buy from someone they know, like and trust. You can try to tear this upside down but this principle applies every time. No trust, no buying. Plain and simple.

So…

Build Trust!

But how can you increase trust?

How do you build that relationship of know, like and trust, with your leads?

Great question! It’s not that easy to grasp.

I’ve put together a list of actions that you can take to increase the trust that your leads have in you:

Consistency:

You’ve heard me say before “Email your list every day” and there is a good reason.

99% of online marketers fail, which means if you buy a product from an online marketer today, there is a good chance that he won’t be there tomorrow. If people see that you’re holding on and keep emailing them after a month, after 6 months, after a year, and even after several years, then trust will grow just because you’re still there.

Also we’ve all seen marketers doing product launches and disappearing for 6 months or even a year after that, not answering a single email. No one likes to be treated that way. So it’s important to show you’re here to stay.

And the best way to do that is to email them consistently 5 times a week (at least) – more if you can/want/have something interesting to say.

Also, if you have a blog, make sure to post on a regular basis. Visiting a blog where the last post is from 2005 makes it look like you’ve quit. If you stop your blog for whatever reason, make sure that the last post explains your decision so that people understand why you haven’t been posting.

Proximity:

People want to know there is a real person behind the website.

It’s so easy nowadays to hide behind a computer. People want to know who you are, and know a least bits of your life so they know you’re real and you’re not going to disappear after scamming the whole planet.

Some promises are just so big (and sometimes true) that if you make them hiding behind stock photos and a website (or your company’s website), no one will trust that what you’re promising will happen. You can talk about what you like, show pictures of you working, doing business and enjoying life.

Just the fact that you’re showing your face is already reassuring.

Post at least on one social media profile on a regular basis, and post content (test, photos, blog posts if you have a blog) that are about yourself and created by you, at least a couple of times a week.

Be light with hype, popups and blinking banners:

People associate hype, big promises…etc with scams.

They won’t believe you from the start.

Be sure to use content that builds trust and is appropriate with your audience. Or it will hurt your relationship rather than strengthen it.

Direct Contact:

Make it easy for people to have direct contact with you.

It’s nice to read blog posts, but it’s even nicer to get read when you send an email to the author, and even nicer to receive a reply.

You must have at least one social media profile. Be sure to answer comments, or at least like them, so your followers know you’re reading what they’re posting. Answer as many questions as you can. It’s not about draining yourself and spending all day on social media either. But if you answer a couple of questions once in a while, people will know that if there is some kind of problem, they can always reach out to you and they’ll know they’ll be heard.

If there is some negative feedback available on social networks or on your blog, be sure to address it (except if it’s all critical out of jealousy, then I would personally let it go because whatever you say, it won’t be right in the opinion of the other person).

Encourage your leads and followers to email you and get in touch with you. It’s also a great way to know who is behind that computer screen and it’ll give you content ideas and maybe product ideas to promote to answer some challenges or problems your audience is suffering.
